Dropper bottles: choosing the glass, pipette and bulb

The bottle

Dropper bottles are commonly made in amber, flint, cobalt and frosted glass. Amber gives the most protection from light, which suits essential oils and light-sensitive serums.

The pipette

Glass pipettes are the most common. The pipette length is matched to the bottle height so it reaches close to the bottom without touching it. Straight, bent and ball-tip pipettes give different drop control.

Bulb and collar

Bulbs are made from rubber, silicone and other elastomers. Some oils and solvents can swell or soften certain bulb materials, so test the bulb with your formula. Collars come in plastic or metal-look finishes to match your brand.

Before you order

Fill a sample with your product and check the drop size, the seal and how the pipette sits in the bottle. Ask about tamper-evident and child-resistant dropper options if your market requires them.
